More Than a School

Well, here we are! Another school year has begun. When my boys were young I was convinced that June and July flew by at warp speed. I’m guessing that many of you are wondering where the summer went as you loaded up your children for their first day of school on Friday.

As a military daughter, I moved around a lot during my formative years. In fact, I went to a new school every year between 5th grade and 11th grade. Every year! I tell you this because we have many new families who are embarking on this Veritas Academy journey for the first time. I know what it’s like to be the new kid. I also know what it’s like to be a new mom at a new school, because I did not stop moving from state to state (or country) until 2010.

If you are new, it’s okay if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed right now. What’s not okay is to isolate yourself or suffer in silence. We are all here to help and support you. Veritas Academy of Tucson is so much more than a school; it is a family. Reach out if you need anything. Other parents who have done this before will be so happy to help! Consider joining one of our many committees to get plugged in and serve — it’s a great way to make connections in a new community. Parents of new students: advise your children to ask their teachers and classmates lots of questions and/or stop by Mrs. Wohlford’s office if they want to talk.

Most importantly, lean on our heavenly Father. He is with us every step of the way. When I find myself getting overwhelmed by my “To Do” list or caught up in the stress of the week, I’m reminded of what Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:31–34 (NIV): “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or “What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

He knows what we need. He has a perfect plan for our lives. He will meet our needs. May God bless you as we begin our new school year and continue to remind you to seek first the kingdom of God.
Seeking Him first,
Michelle
